Listening to the City

From DoWire Wiki

Interesting scenario. As a coach, I would wdnoer does the team believe they were growing closer to consensus and then moving apart, or is it just my impression. I would also wdnoer are there really two positions or again is it just my perception. Another thing I would wdnoer is this team getting stuck, or is it their group process for moving from divergence to convergence. Finally, I am curious what is at stake for the group. With all of this in my head I would think it is time for an intervention. I would take a time check to remind the team of the remaining time. Staying in the time element I would ask in the past 10 minutes (or whatever the actual timeframe was) what are we doing well? Allowing those who want to, to weigh-in with the affirmatives of the current situation. I would then follow-up with what could we do better? Staying in the moment I would assess what did the first two questions gather, and does it give me a better indication that the team is stuck or are they genuinely processing. If they are genuinely processing I think I would ask them (every person, yes/no) if they are ready to come to consensus? If they aren’t I would remind them of the remaining time and would ask who has the next question, unless I interrupted a question to create the intervention. If they think they are ready for consensus, I would ask them to write it down and read it aloud. My intention with the intervention was to test if they were okay or not okay (which could have been the question, but in this situation I believe this could cause speculation assuming that I think they’re not okay). Also, I did want to make them aware of the time limits so they can make an informed choice about how to move ahead. On the other if the answers to my questions confirmed the team was stuck I would follow-up. I would test the two perspectives by asking, I have heard questions consistent with a corporate vantage point, and I have heard questions consistent with an organizational vantage point, has anyone else heard this? If the team confirms this then I would ask them what they want to do about it? If they don’t confirm the existence of two positions, then I would ask them if they are ready to come to consensus and follow the process from there.
