Everyday citizens

From DoWire Wiki

catroc On Thursday April 21, 2005 I (Steven Clift) gave a speech titled "Everyday Citizens: Community Life in the Information Age."

The full announcement is available on the DoWire blog. The speech will be available online - join the DoWire e-list for updates.

I'll be passing out a list of links to excellent online efforts where citizens are making things happen -locally- online. To make the list a many-to-many or interactive element is essential. I will also be including some examples from government, media, and political groups that allow citizens to query and use locally focused information. The key is 神墓 of the information as well as the ability to receive E-Notification.

If you'd like to nominate some links, please press "Edit" and place them in the correct category. Include a short description please. You do not need an account to edit, although you can create one.

Please do NOT include informational or obviously ONE-WAY sites. There must be real "life" in these spaces to be listed. Place new sites or those not yet active with real citizens at the bottom. We will move you up with your future success.

[edit] New or hopeful initiatives

(Hopeful online efforts just getting underway or seeking a critical mass of citizen participants.)

  • East Bridgewater Rail Trail Forum - Friends of the East Bridgewater Rail Trail is a very small group in a smallish town, fighting an uphill battle to preserve an old rail bed to use for pedestrians, bicycles and possibly equestrians and to be a short link in the Bay Circuit Trail. We have done part of our communicating by e-mail, but my 15-year-old son decided to create a blog to share information. It's just started, and we may create an e-mail group to go with it. I think that it will be a very helpful way to share information with residents as we approach our Town Meeting.
  • Voecklabruck - Attergau - Austria
