Democaster software installation

From DoWire Wiki

These Democaster instructions assume that you are webcasting from Windows XP/2000.

While no special help is available, advanced users may webcast via Mac or Linux with alternative encoding and webcam image tools.

Windows users:

1. First, install the "Full" free version of Winamp.

2. Then, install the free and open source Oddcast V3 plug-in for Winamp. When installing please check "Vorbis 1.1 aoTuVb4.5.DLLS". (See below for post-installation detailed set-up information.)

3. Install the optional free and open source Dorgem webcam upload program if you plan to share live pictures with your webcasts.

4. Launch Winamp. If a second Oddcast window does not automatically open, activate this "DSP" plug-in ....

5. Test webcast. This set can take some time.

  • Login as a producer and schedule a one hour test webcast via the Democaster website.
  • Open the Winamp/Oddcast combo.
  • Change the mountpoint setting by right-clicking on the top listed Ogg encoder to XX.ogg - XX equals the unique democast number assigned to your webcast.
  • Plug-in a microphone or audio source and please the "Live xyz" button. You are now webcasting. Talk for a couple minutes.
  • Leave the webcast open and use another computer to listen to the webcast (perhaps with another person). * If you reconnect within your scheduled time with the same settings you will simply create multiple webcast files.

Note: Democaster supports Ogg encoding (digitally compressing the audio) at the producer level and translates it into a complementary MP3 stream and file on the server. You do not need to install a MP3 encoder nor deal with their liscensing issues.
