Client Viewing

From DoWire Wiki

To: Webcasting > Webcasting exchange > Webcasting Technology

The end-user client views the content using a player.

The Webcasting Formats that are used will determine the client software that is required. Players are normally free downloads and include Windows Media Player, Realplayer and Quicktime.

In corporate and government environments, some users are blocked from accessing streaming media content by a firewall and lack of access permissions to install player software.

Some of the target audience may have difficulty in accessing a webcasting project. Persuading network administrators to lift restrictions can contribute to the success of a webcasting project.

Home users do not typically contend with firewall or access premission problems. Instead connection speed is a greater consideration. Broadband penetration is disproportionately adopted by higher socioeconomic households.

To balance access problems, streaming can be made available in public libraries.
